Lilia took an awesome photo of all of the Six Apart SF bikers! Thanks Lilia :)
After a little summer break, Bike Lunch Tuesdays are back at Six Apart!
Tuesday Oct 2nd we're gonna head over to the Museum of Modern Art for a speedy art viewing and take advantage of the fact that the first Tuesday of the month is free.
Food? Well you can bring your own, or perhaps we'll stop at Whole Foods or What's Up Dog on the way there... eat in Yerba Buena across the street from MoMA?
Leave the office at Noon?
Who's in?
I'm sure Randy has seen this, but for the rest of y'all check this out...
Jon and I cycled to Tiburon and back.
We took a small detour up the Marin Headlands and down the west side. This downhill is very thrilling. A nice guy at the top warned us to beware the speed trap at the bottom. Though the speed is quite a rush, it wasn't worth a $193 ticket. So, sadly, we attempted to stay under 15mph w/o using up our brake pads.
The Bay was so clear you could see the San Mateo Bridge from the Marin Headlands. I love this view of San Francisco.
A total of 44 miles of fun... I'm beat... don't know if I'm gonna make it to see Ghostland Observatory.
Got inspired to take a bike ride across the bridge this afternoon. Once across I couldn't stop and had to climb up the headlands and then take the steep one-way down to Rodeo beach.
This is the first time I've owned a road bike; it's amazing how much less resistance there is sans-nobbies. The skinnies are growing on me.
I climbed a bit further north past the beach but then my drivetrain started ghost shifting so I turned around and got another speed fix. On the way down I looked down as i was shifting and noticed a kink in my chain... two seconds later the kink got wedged in my derailleur. Doh!
Luckily I caught it before causing any damage to the derailleur. Thought I might have to walk home... but luckily a nice gal with a pickup truck happened to be passing as I raised my thumb. =)
Jon just told me that he lived in my neighborhood and asked what my route was. I made one of these maps for my jogging route when Vox was on dogfood, but hadn't done it for my average commute.
I was surprised to see that it's a bit over 7 miles, I thought it was much less. The SF Bike Coalition has a map that shows all the streets in SF from white to red based upon the grade of the road. The zig-zag into lower haight avoids one hill. But there are still four blocks with large hills.
Going to work takes about 10-20 minutes (I love the speed of going downhill) and then the route back takes 25-40 minutes depending upon which bike and route I take... and if I have a hot date!
Anyone have a fun route?
I was just at Mikes Bikes in SOMA picking up some new cycing cleats... and a couple had a bike stolen off the back of their car right out front. They were majorly bummed.
Having your bike stolen really sucks; it can leave you in physical pain. I wouldn't wish this upon anyone. I've had two bikes stolen... and another was sold at a yard sale by a crappy roommate who had moved out while I was in Beijing for two months.
The first one that was stolen was a present from my mom's boyfriend (now my stepdad) when I was 14. It was kind of an unspoken token of friendship and I was totally stoked to have a really nice mountian bike. It was stolen one day after school while I was in junior high. A few months later my mom's boyfriend was collecting food for our chickens behind a health food store and found it... only a few blocks from where it was stolen. He picked me up real quick to confirm that it was the same bike. I was so happy to have it back and even more happy that I wasn't carrying any guilt of losing a bike that was bought as a token of friendship.
Funny thing.. whomever was currently using it, had tied a bunch of reflectors to the bike with string... kinda odd adding safety to the bike if they were the one who had stolen it.
People who steal bikes suck.
