Gasp! Mexico City? The home of one of my favorite authors, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. All the oatmeal cookies you want if you get his autograph for me :-)

Next time I'm in Mexico City I'll see what I can do! =P

Hi,

I randomly stumbled into your blog while trying to track down information about La Saladita. I want to take a trip down there in February, but I don't want to bring my Takayama. It's just too nice to allow airline baggage handlers the opportunity to punt it around. Did you find the rentals available to be of decent quality?

Also, can you recommend lodging right at the point? The Web sites I've seen are pretty vague and none offer online booking.

Thanks,

Andy

Ha! All the unknown factors are part of the adventure.

We stayed at House or Waves for $70USD/night, but if the economy doesn't pick up, feel free to bargain with them. There is one local family who owns most of the sound end of the beach, including House of Waves. You can rent decent longboards from the Lourdes Bar & Grill for $100/week. All the locals and tourists are super friendly. For lodging we had to deposit 1/2 the cost into a Bank of America account and then gave them the rest when we arrived. La Saladita is a super small beach village with lots of fun local politics. Los Llanos (which you'll pass through) is 3 miles from the beach and has a few small stores.

Also you might want to check out Rusty's Surf Villa; I'm not sure if construction will be complete by February. I have Rusty's email address if you would like it. Rusty, a seasoned Huntington Beach surfer, a good guy to get to know there at the beach. There is also camping too. The beach is super safe... you may want to plan accommodations for a few nights and then negotiate the rest when you arrive.

Hope that helps. If you have more questions, please feel free to reply. Glad to help out.
