Efficient habits for purely factual communication between humans

Or, stop smiling, so that when you *do* smile, people are like, "holy shit, beau's smiling, something good must be happening" ;)
Tantek fanboy.
[this is good]
hey pal im here. now you have to help me connect the dots.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you must be turning this off and on at will because I never noticed in the three conversations we've had, of course, we've always been in a party setting.

I know a guy who won't say any form of "good bye" at the end of a phone conversation, and he never says "you're welcome."
Hi Georgia. Thx for your note. I'm very facinated by communication. Tantek's Communication Protocols are definitely something that I would never desire to facilitate converstsation in any social setting. I really enjoy conversing with others and learning about who they are and the passions that motivate them. But at work I find that I like to be in a slightly different mode, something closer to what Tantek describes.

There is a beauty to coding that is close to mathmatical perfection. Though there are many solutions to any task/problem/challenge, some are better than others, and you always know if you've got the wrong answer; one typo can cause the whole solution to... not be a solution. =)

I believe that I adapt my communication style as best I can to the situation and person(s) with whom I'm speaking. The way I speak with my guy friends over a beer at a sports bar is much different that how I talk to my girl when we're snuggling. I learned a great deal from a book that my mom gave me one xmas after telling me about how it changed her father's life; it was so enfluential, he took out a small loan in order to attend a seminar by the author... Dale Carnege, How to Win Friend and Influence People. The title doesn't really give the content justice, but accurately states the results one can achieve. Though it was written 70 years ago, the lessons are just as real today.

Well, peeps are now arriving in the office... time to be efficient. =P
Awesome, I love it when the length of a comment rivals the length of the post! Also fun to find what favorite subject gets people talking. I think we found yours.

For what it was worth, I got my degree in print journalism, and I loved some of my communications classes. If I could do it over again, and I very well might, I'd choose linguistics and speech, because the written word I enjoy is more creative.

In my favorite communication class, don't remember the name, I presented a small lecture on rhetorical reflection. Have you read much on it? In the extremes, some people reflect others to the point of drastically muting their own opinions and personalities, while the other extreme can't relate at all...., anyway, adapting your communication style made me think of that. It was interesting to see the discussion it started, because the communication/word nerds in the room all knew where they fell on the spectrum.

In order to take advantage of my month of free delivery from Amazon, seeing as how I'll forget to stop it and they'll charge me for two more months, I ordered your Winning Friends... People book. I will have to fit it in with Word Power Made Easy and Power Language that I haven't gotten to. Thanks :)
